Happy Sunday everyone!!! Sorry for a delayed review. It was snowing here in Colorado on Friday and as someone with a fear of driving in snow (I don't know what the "scientific" word for that is"), I had to put my life on hold. Instead I snuggled with my cats and drank hot chocolate (with whipped cream), then I did homework (boo!). Regardless, I braved the roads after the snow melted, met up with my former theater teacher turned awesome friend (shout out to you Lindsay!) and we both watched Mr.Peabody and Sherman.
I've been eyeing this for some time now. The trailer had me in stitches (yes I even laughed at the butt joke, because I'm just that immature). I love animations because you can continually push the realms of reality and come up with something fun without having to explain yourself. I don't want to spoil anything for you guys but I'll list down reasons as to why you should check it out regardless of whether you have kids or not. Lindsay and I were the only adults there without the accompaniment of a kid, unless you count kids based on mental maturity.
1) The humor is not just reserved for pups or children
There are A LOT, I repeat A LOT of jokes for adults in this movie. I'm pretty sure some kids didn't get those jokes but who cares, adults need to have fun at movies like this too. It's pretty smart of the script writer to target a wider audience when it comes to movies like this. Keep the adults happy because they just paid more money than necessary solely on the basis that they love their kids. Mo kids, mo money, mo problems. Reward them animation studios! Disney has that winning formula and it's nice to see it spread out with other animation outlets too. This is also a good investment for returning viewers. When kids grow up, they can always watch back their old movies and see it in a completely new light and laugh at new jokes. It's all about the big picture and Mr.Peabody and Sherman can safely fall into this success category.

2) History buffs rejoice
Since this is a time-travel movie, there are many cameos from historical figures that span from ancient Egypt to a recent scandalous, intern-loving, ex-President. If you ever wondered what it would be like if Mozart lived in today's world, the results will not disappoint. If you're a history purist, you might be appalled by some of the interpretations the movie makes, but if you have a good sense of humor, you'll join in on the fun. Otherwise you can dramatically walk out of the cinema, cause a scene, and make history of your own.

3) An ode to movies
Adults who don't have a life like me and have watched countless movies, your efforts are about to pay off because you will notice and enjoy things that others can't. Take that people who said I wasted my time. I know something you don't! :P Okay my immaturity is showing again. There are two scenes in particular that you just can't miss. If you catch it, please do make a comment so that we can discuss how awesome it was.

4) Bow ties are cool
As a whovian who's favorite Doctor was the 11th (I can hear the Tennant fans screaming), it was pretty nice to see that similar bow tie on a character that's just as lovable as the 11th Doctor. Mr. Peabody is a dog but he's more grounded than the human characters in the movie. He's also a lot cuter than most other characters in this movie. Let's face it bow ties make anyone look adorable.

5) The end justifies the means
You may go in thinking that it's ridiculous for a dog to raise a boy but you go with it anyway because either your kid is forcing you to or you're able to suspend your disbelief when it comes to animated movies. I guarantee you though, at the end of this movie, you'll leave your dogs to babysit your kids. Okay, that's like horrible advice but you'll get what I mean when you watch the movie. Hey, Romulus and Remus were temporarily raised by a she-wolf (allegedly), then they were found by shepherds and things turned to shit when they found Rome. I wonder what it would have been like if they were solely raised by the she-wolf instead. It could be the Roman version of The Jungle Book.

Personally, I enjoyed the crap out of this movie. The jokes were very clever, Mr.Peabody had tons of great puns, I'm convinced dogs would make awesome parents, and I would definitely show this to my kids when they're young then when they're older and hopefully, a little wiser. If you're looking for a good time at the movies, watch this; you don't need a child to gain admittance for this movie. Also, expect to run home to your four legged friends and love the hell out of them. I would give this movie a rating of:
This movie is awesome, it's not Disney but it's still awesome (aka 4/5 stars)
So head to a cinema near you as soon as you can. You'll have a Reel Good Time with it!
