Another day, another random ramble. Still Oscar themed because we are inching closer towards the big event!!! This is a category I'm particularly fond of because the love of my life has been nominated for his 4th Oscar and he damn well NEEDS TO WIN!!! I'm calm, I'm calm. Let's analyze the list of nominees shall we?
Christian Bale is a good actor but he did not deserve to be nominated for this performance. Tom Hanks should have taken this spot. American Hustle is overrated (sorry had to use the O word again) and so is Christian Bale's performance in this. I think I would have been more okay with him being nominated for one of his Batman performances compared to this. I don't know what the Academy members were smoking when the voted, or if they have a similar physique to Christian Bale's character and "saw themselves in him" so they nominated him? We will never know but we do know Bale is not going to win this time with this performance. I still love you Christian Bale, you sang the Power Puff Girls theme song and you'll always have a place in my heart for that.
Ah, remember how in the last post I talked about not watching Nebraska? Well it's been a day, so I still haven't quite gotten to it yet. I don't have the full experience of Bruce Dern's performance but I can tell you my thoughts based off the trailer. I thought he did a solid job. He's been in the industry for a long time and still hasn't won anything. Basically, the Christopher Plummer experience. Do I think he will win? Probably not, but he is one of the better actors on the list (yeah I'm looking at you McConaughey) and I wouldn't mind it if he won, but he won't.

Oh Matthew, Matthew, Matthew. I don't know how to quite put this. To me, his performance in Dallas Buyers Club was just "alright, alright, alright". Yeah, pun totally intended. Yes, he has resurrected his career, but it's not by becoming a better actor, it's by choosing better movie projects. Matthew McConaughey always plays himself in every role I've seen him in. He doesn't have that much of a facial range and he has the SAME DARN VOICE EVERY SINGLE TIME. You wanna give him an Oscar for that? For his nomination, he's just playing a skinnier version of himself. I'm not saying the guy's not talented, because he is, but he does not deserve an Oscar when there are many more worthy contenders on the list. I'm sorry McConaughey, I'm just not feeling it for you. If you win, good for you but I'll secretly resent you for it. Maybe Academy voters promised to vote for you because you'd give them dietary tips, either way, that's just wrong.
Here's someone who deserves to win. 12 Years a Slave could not have been an easy movie to make, physically and emotionally. Chiwitel stole the show with his heart-felt, realistic, sympathetic, believable, and wondrous performance. I'm so glad he won the BAFTA (though he beat Leo). I've got to give credit where it's due and Chiwitel deserves to win over all the actors listed before him (not below him though) on this list. My grandma was willing to get up and run to your rescue in a crowded movie theater!!! You my friend did a heck of a job in this role. Dear Academy, movie awards shouldn't be about campaigning and politics, the work should speak for itself.
My love, my king of the world, my pick for best actor. Listen, I'm not just saying that because I'm biased, I genuinely think he deserves his fucking Oscar. He's turned in countless of impressive performances but he has lost to less worthy contenders or been snubbed for less worthy performances. Where's the justice? The first thing I said when I left the cinema.....Scorsese broke DiCaprio. Leo pulled out every single emotional range from the actor's playbook to play Jordan Belfort. It was glorious to watch. He reached Nicholas Cage's level of insanity but he pulled it off beautifully. He was playing to both his comedic and dramatic cards, sometimes both at the same time. He made the role completely his own. Can you think of anyone else who could have taken on that role? What else can a man do to win his long deserved Oscar???? I hope he pulls a 2011 Meryl Streep win. You might hear screams of delight broadcasted all over the United States from my house. I promise to scream that loud if and when he wins.
Now doesn't that look just perfectly right?
Good luck Leo!!!!!
